The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital /Moi University College of Health Sciences Institutional Research and Ethics Committee (MOI-IREC) is an accredited institution that deals with the review of medical research involving human participants, tissue and data. It is jointly constituted by the Chief Executive Officer of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and the Principal of College of Health Sciences (CHS).
The Research and Ethics Committee draws its mandate from the National Council for Science Technology and Innovation and it is responsible for ethical and regulatory oversight of research at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital , Moi University College of Health Sciences and other affliated institutionsand areas that fall within its jurisdiction. It serves to ensure that the rights and welfare of all actual or potential participants are safeguarded to ensure institutional compliance with ethical principles and regulatory requirements. Any human participant’s research proposed by faculty, staff, or students must be reviewed and approved by IREC before any research begins, and before related grants may be funded.
