Doctors working at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) underwent a day-long training on patient safety( 25th April, 2018). The training, held at an Eldoret Hotel, was attended by 13 Consultants.
It was facilitated by Prof. John Ahlperg and Dr. Christer Anderson from the Linkoping University, Sweden.
The facilitators underscored the need for adherence to patient safety by all players in the health sector arguing that it is key towards realization of effective healthcare service delivery.
Prof. Ahlperg emphasized the need for clinical audits in the Hospital targeting specific cases.
"There is need for unity of purpose in all disciplines managing patients. As team leaders, Doctors should take the lead," he said.
Prof. Ahlperg expressed gratitude to Consultants from MTRH for attending the session.
MTRH has embraced Patient Safety Approaches and Root Cause Analysis since 2014, mainly through the Director of Nursing Services, Titus Tarus, working closely with the CEO, Dr. Wilson K. Aruasa.
Patient Safety informed the decision to have a Night Superintendent at night, a Senior Nurse Covering the Hospital at night assisted by four Nurses (Zonal Covering).
Linkoping University has a long-standing partnership with MTRH.
