Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital CEO Dr. Wilson K. Aruasa has requested the Senate Committee on Health to assist Counties in speedy implementation of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) to aid the Hospital from operating in a constrained environment. 

He said that MTRH faces some challenges as a result of congestion and overcrowding from referrals. 

Dr. Aruasa was speaking during the inaugural sitting of Senate's Committee on Health at the Moi University, College of Health Sciences Boardroom on 25th September, 2018.

The CEO said the congestion is by virtue that many clients prefer and trust MTRH because of the quality services offered and requested the Government to support the Hospital and Counties in order to serve the people well.

"We are getting a lot of referrals because many clients trust our services. I therefore urge the government through the Senate Committee on Health to support us,". He said.He further requested the Government to fully help the Hospital get sufficient development grant.

"The government's development grant we are getting is too small to sustain our projects and I therefore ask the government to fund us fully. "MTRH Board Chair Godana Doyo requested the Senate Committee on Health to support improvement of County Health Facilities to bring health services closer to the citizens and decongest MTRH.

Sessional Chair, Elgeyo Marakwet County Senator, Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen, said that there have been huge challenges after transition period in health after inception of devolution.

Murkomen said that the Senate will champion for health course to be implemented fully.He further assured that the House will help counties have strong footing in order to ease referrals at MTRH.

Devolution Committee Chair in the Senate, John Kinyua commended the Hospital for diligent services offered and assured that the entire house will support the Hospital's request for additional funding.

Present were Senators Kipchumba Murkomen, Prof. Sam Ongeri, Amos Wako, Mutula Kilonzo Jr, John Kinyua, Petronila Were, Prof. Margaret Kamar, Naomi Shiyonga, Isaac Mwaura,  Kiprotich Cherargei, Mohammed Mahammud and Nairobi County Assembly Speaker, Beatice Elachi.
